41. THE JUDAS CHAPTER - JACKHAMMER The car and a couple of beards give this cover a bit of a ZZ Top feel to it. The various shades of blue, the black of the road and the yellow road markings create an intriguing effect. | 42. ASTRA - FREEDOMS CHILDREN I can't claim to know what this cover is about, I just think it looks cool. |
43. SAD SIMON LIVES AGAIN - QUENTIN E. KLOPJAEGER (A.K.A. BILLY FORREST) Bright orange on black is a powerful combination. Looks like something out of the opening scenes of a Bond film. |
44. MOROCKO - MOROCKO Once again it's the colours that do it. The pyramids have always been powerful images and the blue sun gives the picture a Sci-Fi quality. Much more pleasing on the eye than the mugshot on the back cover. |
45. CONCERT IN THE PARK - VARIOUS ARTISTS South Africa's answer to Live Aid is brillaintly captured in this stadium encompassing shot. You can just see me in row 453, 974th from the left. Also it looks like the person who did the writing for Peach (see no.38) has got their red pen out again. |
46. FLY BY NIGHT - NO FRIENDS OF HARRY An idyllic beach is rudely interrupted by a crashing plane. The contrasts are stark, the image powerful. |
47. A LITTLE MORE LIKE ME - GENE ROCKWELL A few black lines on a white background produces a startling image of this one time rocker. Simple but effective. |
48. A NAARTJIE IN OUR SOSATIE - VARIOUS ARTISTS The title of this album was plagiarised from graffiti on the wall of the archdeacon's residence in Cape Town. Further plagiarising Pink Floyd's wall and using naartjie coloured paint, the irreverent title is complimented by the irreverent ou pulling a face. The irony of the slogan on his T-shirt ("Ons vir jou Suid Afrika") is a nice touch. |
49. NOTHING TO FEAR - MARGARET SINGANA Margaret Singana is all about her voice. The photographer here seems to have tried to get as close as possible to capture her voice as an image. |
50. THE KILLING FLOOR - ALL NIGHT RADIO "Friday night in Boksburg". So starts the song "On Through the Night". Two tough manne stand in a doorway in a tough neighbourhood. A real working class image matching the working class theme of the music. |
