Louise Carver - Mirrors And Windows
Louise Carver is this talented singer/songwriter from Cape Town who has been working towards this, her debut album, for the past four years. She has been groomed, developed and finally recorded by the Silver Tulip Music, a new and exciting record company based in Camps Bay. Carver's first single, 'It Don't Matter', was released in early 1997 and hit the top of the Campus and 5FM charts. Her album 'Mirrors and Windows' was released in November 1998 and has already caused a major stir among talent-spotters all round the country. Louise wrote all the words and music for these 12 songs and they all utilize her classical and operatic musical background to astounding effect. The lyrics are largely autobiographical but merge sweetly with these well-arranged and attention-grabbing songs. 'Take Me Away From Here' introduces Louise Carver's emotive and sensual voice over a shimmering backing and first single ' It Don't Matter' sounds like vintage Carly Simon and works off a great hook. 'Grammy' is a sneering and confused rant at an (ex?) lover and 'Yin And Yang' links a paradoxical lyric to a grungy guitar workout. 'Mirrors and Windows' took a while to get here but is all part of Silver Tulip's grand plan for Louise Carver. It's an admirable effort and a very enjoyable album. Nice one Louise!
