Benjy says...
Dear Rock of Ages fans,
It's great to be back from holiday and live on-air once again, I hope you enjoyed last night's show. Next week's 45 minuted special will be "Hands wet on the wheel" featuring Dutch rockers Golden Earring. Originally formed in 1965 they recorded an amazing 8 albums before striking the big time in 1973 with "Moontan" ... and who can forget the perennial "Radar Love"? The band currently comprises of original members vocalist Barry Hay, guitarist George Kooymans and bassist Rinus Gerrittsen as well as long time drummer Cesar Zuiderwijk and to date have released an astonishing 33 albums!

Tokyo Dragons - Give Me The Fear
It is pretty quiet out there on the new releases front, most of the labels are only now getting back to business (nice job!) However I'm stoked that I have managed to get my hands on the debut album by UK classic rock hopefuls Tokyo Dragons. There has been a buzz on this band for a couple of years now, due mainly to their apparently high voltage live shows. However due to an undisclosed 'development hell' scenario the album, "Give me the fear", had been delayed for some months. The first inkling I had that here was a new ass kickin', full throttle rock 'n roll band was the track "Rocking the stew", featured on Classic Rock's "Best of 2005" sampler. The album is crammed full to the maximum with raunchy riffs, anthemic vocals, killer guitar solos reminiscent of great bands like Thin Lizzy, AC/DC, Judas Priest and the like. Check out "What the hell" and "Do ya wanna" for starters.
All Good Clean Fun
In the postbox this week was another incredible rock label retrospective called "All good clean fun", a journey through the underground of Liberty & United Artist Records 1967-1975. Following in the footsteps of last year's "Vertigo Time Machine" this 3 cd set showcases some classic psych, stoner and heavy blues rock bands including Man, The Groundhogs, Cochise, Hawkwind, If, Can, BB Blunder, Hapshash and the Coloured Goat (yes you read that right!), Idle Race, Brinsley Schwartz and even some early Motorhead ..... 39 remastered tracks in all, great liner notes and rare pics .....

Benjy Mudie was inducted into the South African Rock Hall Of Fame on 14th August 2002. Of Scottish origin, Mudie started out in the music industry working in record shops. He later became the A&R man for WEA records, signing such luminaries as Lesley Rae Dowling, Baxtop and Falling Mirror. He has ventured briefly into the realms of songwriting, getting co-writing credit for Little Sister's song 'You Got My Heart', but it is mainly for his running of record labels, notably Tusk and more recently Fresh and Retro Fresh that he is honoured. With these labels he has tirelessly dedicated himself to putting South African music out there, showing an unshaking belief in the quality of SA music.
