Just Jinger - All comes round Its difficult to pinpoint what exactly is so special about this the debut album from new SA band Just Jinger. After grabbing the prestigious support slot on Canadian 'snooze-rockers' Crash Test Dummies recent SA tour, the JJ's did the ingratitude thing and blew the main act off the stage. So all interested ears turn to hear if their live dynamism translates adequately to Cd. Recorded last year in the Rhino studios in Mmabatho with Aussie producer Reggie Bowman, 'All comes round', with its generous 16 tracks, manges to cover a wide range of styles without losing the bands distinctive sound. Most of the songs were written or co-written by Art Matthews and it is his voice that gives the band, and this album, its inner core of quality. The arrangements are complex ,crisp and clear and never threaten to submerge Art's voice , rather working to support him even on the harder songs.
The songs maintain a consistency that results in a strong all-round album as opposed to the usual
one-hit plus filler debut style. Besides the title track, 'Too late' and 'Father and farther' stand out.
But after a few listens not only is it obvious that this is a album that demands repeated playings,
it is also obvious that Art and the boys have more where this came from and (if and ) when
one grows tired of this album there will be another to take its place; and that is really what makes
Just Jinger and their debut album so special.
