Gito Baloi Na Ku Randza Having first achieved respect and recognition as an integral member of Tananas, Bass player Gito here presents his second solo album engineered by the highly regarded Peter Pearlson. Most of the songs are composed and arranged by Baloi who also plays Bass, Acoustic Guitar and handles most of the vocals. The album, whose title means "I love you" recalls traces of his days with Tananas except with a more pronounced Latin feel as on the track 'Liberdade'. The band comprising George Lee, Bruce Cassidy, and Vaughan Tromp excel throughout adding tightness, texture and feeling to Baloi's compositions. Chude Mondlane assists on vocals with a mixture of sensitivity and power. Generally this is a worthwhile album although songs like 'Filosofia' tend to meander into a pointless jam-session type vibe. A bit of trimming could have highlighted the power of the better tracks but overall Gito Baloi has provided us with a generous slice of his obvious talent and it sounds like he had a great time doing it.
